Reaching the Community
of Hong Kong

Serving the Elderly, Disabled and Low-Income Families

Although Hong Kong is known as a city with a healthy economy and much wealth, there is also an ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor. More than 1.47 million people live in poverty in Hong Kong. About one in five Hong Kong people live a poor and deprived life, struggling to afford three square meals a day and shut out of normal social interaction.

  • 21% of people in Hong Kong are living in poverty with an income below $6,250/mo. and a low standard of living.

  • Child poverty is a serious problem in Hong Kong: more than 1 in 4 children (27% of all children) live in poverty

  • 126,000 children (12% of all children) lack at least one school learning-related item or activity, such as a computer with internet connection at home, extra-curricular activities, or tutorial lessons

How Urban Nexus, Our Local Ministry, is Helping Better Society

We take these issues very seriously and our heart is to bring answers to these issues in a practical way. We partner with 9 elderly homes and social centers that work with low-income children, youth and elderly. Our goal is to promote their sense of belonging, security and value through regular visits, food distribution and performances that will bring a message of peace and hope.

Urban Nexus in Action:

Food Distribution & Food Bank

In our partnership with Feeding Hong Kong we collect surplus food every week, feeding over 500 people in the area of Tuen Mun. 100% of the food items go to our charity partners that work solely with the elderly, aged blind, mentally and physically disabled and families of low-income. If you have a heart for the most neglected and forgotten part of society in Hong Kong, come and join us!

Working with the Elderly, Disabled & Low-Income Families

We endeavor to develop the physical, mental and social capabilities of people with disabilities by training them in performing arts and creating programs that enrich their value as individuals.

Our goal is to encourage their full participation in our programs for them to enjoy equal rights in order to promote their integration into the community.

Prison & Detention Center Ministry

We regularly visit the Castle Peak Immigration Detention Center to speak with the detainees, spend time with them, and give advice when requested.

Because of the nature of the detention center, we regularly have a chance to minister to those from many different nations through this ministry, even some nations which are closed countries!

Campus Ministry

Just ten minutes away from YWAM Tuen Mun is Lingnan University, a university with 3,600 students from all over the world. Urban Nexus runs a weekly "English Club" where relevant topics are brought up and discussed in an open environment. This is a great way to get to know the youth of Hong Kong and also build friendships, which later can develop into opportunities to share the Gospel.

Every week the staff meets with students who attend the club as well as throughout the week to play basketball, eat noodles at a local joint or just go out to have fellowship.

If you have a heart for the young people of Hong Kong, come and join us!
